Introductory slide for The Greater Purpose Value Campaign
Just as Trust is always earned, the true cost of Trust goes beyond price. For Infinitium, it always has been and continues to be a process of constantly proving trustworthiness. Infintium’s CEO, Ho Ching Wee reflected, “How we build trust with our clients over time is by a first things first basis. We do this by solving the problems that are at hand before addressing and tackling underlying issues.” Similarly, in building Trust within the larger Infinitium team, empowerment comes first before accomplishment. Sharing an experience during one of his travels without access to telecommunication, Ching Wee said, “That was my first time learning to put the onus on my senior management team to make the call without going through me. I came to realise that they can make good decisions on their own.” This seed of empowerment eventually grew throughout the company as it progressed from its early days to the present time.

With the Trust Value Campaign, Trust and empowerment were taken to the next level. The Value Champion, Chew Yee Loong and his organising team made sure to capture the essence of empowering Infinitians in The Greater Purpose campaign. In this context, it was to give Infinitians the opportunity to come up with an initiative to give back to society – especially in light of the pandemic situation. “Through this campaign, we want to remind Infinitians of how fortunate we are. It is a collective platform to take action based on individual conscience and do good beyond ourselves,” said Chew. While the teams had the liberty to come up with initiatives for causes close to their hearts, guidelines were set to ensure the viability in execution and participation by Infinitians across all branches. During the presentation phase, top 3 initiatives were chosen through a process of pitching, Q&A, shortlisting and voting, whereby the shortlisting committee consisted of the CEO, chiefs and general managers. Thereafter, all Infinitians present voted for their preferred initiative based on the respective teams’ pitches.

Voting poll for the selected initiative from the shortlisted top 3
From the 6 teams with representation from Malaysia and Indonesia, ideas for initiatives included engaging community food banks, street food vendors, an orphanage and an animal shelter. In presenting their plans and answering questions on the spot, each team showed ownership through research and planning in highlighting the relevance of cause, as well as recommendations for implementation and budgeting.

Compared to previous campaigns, a key difference with this campaign is that what would have been allocated as prize money was now funds for the selected initiative. Even with this, the organising team were encouraged to see the whole-heartedness of Infinitians throughout the course of planning up until the presentation day. Insani, who also emceed for the presentation phase remarked, “They still gave their best and commitment amidst a peak period. Drawing from this, I feel this gives us the confidence to rely on others, even for a day-to-day work setting.”

Likewise, Lynette from the runner-up team Disco Cats shared, “There were times when not all of us could be present to make decisions during planning, but still we trusted each other to make the right call and carry out our respective roles.” With their focus on animal welfare, the team of animal lovers shared their proposed initiative with a supplementing video which included a team member’s heart-warming story. Joseph, featured alongside his rescue cat, had also shot and edited the video. He expressed, “It really was something to be entrusted with something completely new – for me, it was to produce a video for the first time ever.”

Secure Team, the winning team from Malaysia and Indonesia
On the significance of trust, Izwan from Secure Team, the team with the most votes, shared “We felt a sense of pride to be given the opportunity to submit an idea and plan where everyone can take part.” Their idea had a unique approach of getting participation through matching the figure of monies contributed per individual to their age. Hafiz added on, “It is an honour to be impacting others beyond our everyday work.” With all team members coming from the IT security department, their words carried weight having gone through a highly crucial moment just the week before – almost preventing them from submitting their plans. As Chew and the organising team recounted, they agreed that relying on others in the times of an emergency or need comes from how they know others to be. Whether it be 11 years or even a month of knowing one another, the clear takeaway was that performance is what makes or breaks trust. Looking back on Infinitium’s points of growth, Ching Wee said “Trust is earned not with promises or words, but actions.”
